Children learn through experiences with people, objects and things in
their world. Experience through play, knowledge, curiosity and
sense of wonder are foundations for children's learning.
Children's ideas about themselves impact their interactions with adults,
with other children, and with how they view themselves as learners.
Specials provide Morning Star Children with multi-learning environments
in addition to their preschool curriculum.

Tuesday – Fine Arts (Green, Red and Orange Stars)

Move & Groove (Purple, Green, Red & Orange Stars)
Rhythm and Music – Instruments, hand motions, movement
and vocal exercises will be learned in this special, in addition to
songs. Music can help children understand characteristics of sound such
as pitch (high and low), dynamics (loud and soft) and duration (long and
short). Students will have the chance to learn weekly theme-related
songs in addition to those used in the classroom. Songs are also taught
to be used in school programs through out the year, where students get
the chance to perform for their families, friends and teachers!
Fine Arts – This special will explore all aspects of
the fine arts. For example in years past, students experimented with
painting in the style of Van Gogh and French Impressionists. This year
our tradition of a one month fine arts program will expand to last all
year maximizing this experience! Art can enhance children’s sense of
self-image and self-worth while encouraging creativity and independence.
Cooking - Children learn cognitive skills to build
off science, math and self help skills. During our cooking classes, each
child learns about measuring, cause and effect and healthy eating. Each
child participates in making healthy snacks for their class.
Science – Children learn science best and
understand scientific ideas if they are able to investigate and
experiment. Hands-on science can also help children think
critically and gain confidence in their own ability to solve problems.
Computers – The Red & Orange Star classrooms
are equipped with computers. Age appropriate software enhances
many of the skills taught in the classroom. We also provide our
teachers with large screen monitors so interactive activities can be shared
with students.
Move & Groove – This special is a program to teach song and dance, basic gymnastics and body movements through stretching and aerobic exercise. The program teaches flexibility and builds muscle to help children develop their skills for gymnastics and dance. Fun music that children can relate to and preschool friendly characters are incorporated in the lesson plans.
Chapel Time –
Red and Orange Stars spend once a week in Chapel with Pastor Tom Miller or a member of his staff. He brings a spiritual enlightenment to the children regarding the theme of the week.
